Weekly Wordpress Wrap for 01/07/2012
1st-Jul-2012 08:50 pm
This week I heard the sad news that mikey_ob had finally lost his long fight with cancer.

The only other thing I wrote was a review of an old board game: Titan.

I did get a fair bit of gaming in this weekend, including a marathon session of 1870, so I'm fairly tired right now.  I've just started watching Hanasaku Iroha which is looking like an interesting character piece so far.

I love Titan, although I haven't had enough of an opportunity to play it, and I'm absolutely terrible at it. But I do think a few rounds of Colossus might improve things...

I...used to love it, I now think it is deeply flawed for a face to face board game.

I do enjoy a few rounds of Colossus though, and the Abyssal variant is highly amusing, as you may have gathered from the screenshot on the wordpress entry. :)

The iPad app is...OK, it does have some problems that I can't articulate yet though.

Sure, there are some serious flaws there, not the least being how long it takes to resolve each turn. But for a relative beginner like myself there is a sense of excitement and wonder. I must say I am very impressed with Colossus, having given it a few tries last night, even though I'm absolutely terrible the game.

That's fair enough, especially if you're not used to the various terrain advantages for natives/penalties for non-natives.

Don't forget the mulligan on the 1st turn, that can be critical. :)
