Voyage of the Dawn Treader
20th-Nov-2010 10:23 pm
Open Road!
The story I remember: Edmund and Lucy's last visit to Narnia is a charming travelogue lightly spiced with a bit of prophecy during which Eustace grows up.

The trailer for the movie seen on TV: AN EPIC QUEST TO SAVE NARNIA! WITH A GLOWING MAGIC SWORD! In DIGITAL 3D!

Oh...dear.

In terms of length the Narnia novels are ideal for adaptation: light on descriptive details and sufficiently short in plot to create a film that contains all of the relevant content without being 3 hours long.

Wardrobe, as you say, nailed it perfectly. I still liked Prince Caspian but the castle raid does look stupid in retrospect. Reepicheep saved it however. :)

You're right about the Tolkien influence (which is ironic given some of Tolkien's criticisms OF Lewis) on the plotting of Prince Caspian.

I think that influence is why Dawn Treader may well sail over the shark, if it doesn't jump it outright. :)
