Open Road!
The story I remember: Edmund and Lucy's last visit to Narnia is a charming travelogue lightly spiced with a bit of prophecy during which Eustace grows up.

The trailer for the movie seen on TV: AN EPIC QUEST TO SAVE NARNIA! WITH A GLOWING MAGIC SWORD! In DIGITAL 3D!

Oh...dear.

I think we're seeing some Executive Meddling at work here.

I'll still go see it. I'm interested in what they preserve from the original and what they change, and how, and why.

Narnia doesn't occupy the Holy Place in my childhood that the Oz books did, or the place in my somewhat older teenhood that the Lensman series or Lord of the Rings did, but in ALL of those I can see a moviemaker NEEDING to make some changes. Especially if they wanted to appeal to a wide enough audience to actually make money on it.

Making the RIGHT changes, now, there's the tricky part.

Probably a fair assessment of what happened. I think it's the glowing sword that I find most egregious about it as it was one trope that Lewis avoided entirely.

Actually now that I think about it: why DID Lewis avoid magic weapons?
