So where have I been for the last month or so?
Mostly feeling...blah. That last cold lingered for a while and I just didn't feel like doing much, or blogging about it when I did.
Alternatively I just experienced a month long adrenalin crash after the election and WorldCon. Take your pick.
I will return to 20 Days of Lodoss Wars soon, and there's some other stuff worth mentioning from the last month or so.
There was a local production of Into The Woods that I went to with some friends. It turned out to be the junior version - first act only with some interesting censorship of the songs IN the first act. I found it to be an interesting experience, but definitely a mixed bag.
I recently read David Weber's new standalone (at least so far) from Tor Out of the Dark. I'm definitely a fan of David Weber but one thing this book proves is how much better he can be with tight editing. Sharp, snappy, maybe a little too much with the deus ex machina ending, but clearly one of his best efforts in years.
Another recent read was the Housuke Nojiri's Rocket Girls, the 1995 light novel on which the 2007 anime was based. The gap led to a key setting of the novel being completely dropped from the anime due to existence failure in the interim: Mir (although there was a moment in the anime that was a shout out to it).
Overall it is a fun read with a few moments of TMI spiced with "In a press conference? What the?". I'd really like to lend this to one of the ladies on my friends list to get a female perspective on some of those elements - I'm pretty sure the ones I'm thinking of will leap off the page at whoever reads it.
And that's it for now.
Hello? Is thing still on?
