Thirty Days of Anime - Day 4 - Favourite Film
16th-Aug-2010 07:12 pm

For me a favourite will be something that I watch primarily, if not purely, for pleasure. There may well be substance to it, but that alone won't make it a favourite.

So it shouldn't come as any surprise to find out that my favourite anime film is My Neighbour Totoro. As with Cardcaptor Sakura (day 2) this is a film I watch for soul food, something to come away from with a renewed sense of wonder in the world.

And for the record, the bus stop scene never gets old. :)

I actually prefer Kiki's Delivery Service. Not sure why. Spirited Away comes very close as well.

What is your least favourite Miyazaki? Mine would probably have to be Mononoke, although I was pretty underwhelmed by Ponyo and Howl's.

I would rate Kiki as a better film but not one that I'd watch as often as Totoro (which was my criteria for favourite). That said it was something of a tossup between Kiki and Totoro for this slot.

I'd probably agree with Mononoke as least favourite - Ponyo and Howl's are significantly more entertaining to watch. However, Mononoke is a much more impressive and artistic film than the other two.
