I think dalekboy absolutely nailed it when he said this about Kathryn Bigelow's Best Director Oscar (emphasis added): "She won in spite of being a woman. If you can't accept that little fact, you're part of the problem."
It aint fair, it aint right, but generally the first woman to win anything in a male dominated field does so by being twice as good. I've yet to hear anything (well, anything credible at least) suggesting that The Hurt Locker isn't that good, or that Bigelow's direction wasn't that good.
As noted above I haven't seen it yet but I'm now tempted to do so.
