Day 17 - Milford Experience 9 - Te Anau to Manapouri and return

A sprint, a social bit, and a hard grind. All before lunch.

So I was expecting a light ride to Manapouri and back today as a recovery ride from the century yesterday. Bwahahaha!

I was late getting started so sprinted off hoping to catch Rosco and Ingelise who said they were going to take it slow. So slow in fact that they stopped at an aviary (which I didn't find out about until later). So there I was sprinting along hoping to catch them having in fact passed them early on without knowing about it. I ended up making the ride in very similar time, possibly a touch slower, to the last time I rode this route.

Shortly after I'd had a snack and turned around to head back the other way Rosco and Ingelise turned up. After that we headed out of Manapouri along a different road to join up with the main road and head back to Te Anau on the main road. This stretch wasn't too bad, I was taking it easy and there was a chance to chat as we rode which was nice. As we got closer to the main road a head wind started coming up and only got worse as we went on.

Then we got to the main road and started dealing with headwinds and long slow climbs. Ouch. This bit was a grind and my legs were not impressed although we made it back in reasonable time for lunch. After a brief film on the sights of Fjordland (recommended) I decided to rest for a bit before heading in search of an internet cafe.
And here are the usual stats:

DayMax Ave Distance Time BJ Rank Against
 17 41.918.654.932:57:17 7494873

Tomorrow we're off to Queenstown by a different route that involves gravel and steamships.

I spent a fair chunk of last week reviewing short OAVs: Dominion Tank Police, Ruin Explorers, Gunsmith Cats, and Sakura Wars. I also discovered…

I actually got up early enough today to ride with the Canberra Mob. A nice ride in company around the east basin of Lake Burley Griffin. Felt good.
