Actually it's more fun telling them that the platypus is real and typical of the strangeness of Australian biology...


I'm also kind of impressed that Snopes noticed this in a US election year.

Yes, that was posted on LinkMachineGo a while ago and I was like "How can anyone not see this is fake?". I think people are primed to expect foreigners to be accidentally wacky rather than self-aware and intentionally funny.

I think it is because we are all so primed to think "Politician == Ass covering motor-mouthed idiot" that Clarke's portrayal seems perfectly reasonable.

He does do a very good job of portraying it :)
