Mild rant

Something that I'm sure we've all seen: Husband drives to a place where he will get out, wife in passenger's seat. Husband gets out of drivers seat, wife gets in to drive home. Wife has to adjust seat, mirrors, etc.

To me this is the husband saying "I trust you to drive my car but not when I'm in it. Even when it makes sense." And I won't go into the holdups it can cause whenever this occurs on a busy street etc.

OK, as sexism goes this is relatively minor but it is also purely stupid. And I'm not sure if its the sexism or the stupidity that annoys me more.

Unless it's a case of the wife not being particularly keen to drive too often, maybe for reasons of chronic fatigue/MS or whatever, and so when the husband can drive he does, and it's only when he gets out and goes off to wherever he was going that she has to take over.

I may or may not be speaking from personal experience...

Fair point.

And I have to admit that if I'm just seeing it on the street that there's no way to tell which scenario applies. Particularly with the conditions you mentioned which are often not overly visible.

Somtimes the first person has picked up the car and driven to pick up the second person (say from work) and then gone to a place where they haev to be (say the library), and then the second person has dropped them off and driven away (say home). Possible?

Stop being reasonable! It ruins all the fun of a good rant.
