| I spent a fair chunk of last week going "oooh, it's sooo pretty" about ARIA the NATURAL on Twitter. Despite this I still managed to see, and greatly enjoy, the Avengers. I also amused myself by indulging in some wild speculation about Magic Knight Rayearth, and boosting the signal when FUNimation's pending re-release of Haibane Renmei was noticed by the anime blogosphere. There is no sign, as yet, of a remastered blu-ray edition. I spent most of the weekend catching up with leecetheartist and rdmasters who are in town for a disc golf tournament. Many good boardgames were played, and I even got up early enough today to play a bit of disc golf. Tomorrow we'll be visiting the Australian War Memorial. I was out all day so a final reminder for the Chronos Awards didn't get posted, but the voting closes in about an hour and a half. | |

| I ordered a bluray of Gettysburg thinking it was the Ted Turner movie, and ended up with an OK documentary produced by Ridley and Tony Scott. On Friday I noticed that Madman had run a poll for their Top 20 anime titles, and I indulged in some entirely predictable snarking (given what's number one, and what isn't on the list at all). I was clearly bored since I also updated the Anime Review List page to include recent posts. It is now the last week of voting for the 2012 Chronos Awards so the inevitable reminder went up. For postal votes the last day is probably Wednesday if it is going to be here by Friday. I also spent a fair chunk of the week continuing to watch ARIA the NATURAL, and enjoying the relaxation that doing so always brings. EDIT: I just answered a challenge from pedanther On Fandoms Three, which I'm including because it is still Sunday. :) | |

| Like dalekboy I've never done a post like this before, but at the same time I'm also proud of some of the things I wrote last year. To start with I did Thirty Days of Escaflowne*: an in-depth review and analysis of the classic anime series The Vision of Escaflowne. At roughly 30,000 words for the entire series of posts, it would be nice to get some recognition of it. I also reviewed 11 movies under the Twenty Days: Anime Movies tag, as well as a number of short reviews of various series. If you've read any of these posts, and liked them, please consider nominating me here for Best Fan Writer. That said, I've never really been one for awards** and if there's someone else whose writing you prefer please nominate them instead. *Links to the wrap-up, the first post in the series is here. **And, yes, I'm aware of the irony involved in my running the Chronos Awards. - Tags:anime, sf cons

| I arrived late last night for Swancon, and woke up stupidly early this morning (again). I suspect being zombie tired is likely to be a recurring feature of my weekend. I've also noticed the first forgotten item: the internal DVD drive for the laptop. :) - Tags:sf cons

| Real life has intervened somewhat this week with an old friend visiting Canberra. Between dinner, a visit to the Renaissance collection at the National Gallery (OK, but crowded, liked the regular exhibits better), and the National War Memorial (the current Nursing exhibition is recommended), I've had somewhat less time for reviewing. That said Twenty Days of Key the Metal Idol covered GOTO, RETURN, Gender (OK, but only because you're supposed to get angry), and BUG. I still haven't managed to review Volume 15 of Oh My Goddess!, but I hope to write that up tonight (although I may have to read it again first). | |

| Twenty days of Key the Metal Idol continued with ACCESS, SCROLL I, SCROLL II, the Extra Bits*, and RUN. *I deferred the gender post for a little while as I have conflicting opinions at the moment. The recent volumes of Oh My Goddess! were a lot of fun with Volume 13 and Volume 14 dramatically improving my opinion of Skuld. Volume 15 isn't quite as good, and I may get that review out this evening. The Chronos Awards Nominations close today, and that's it for the week. | |
